The song's lyrics touch on themes of childhood fears and nightmares, and the Sandman is a fitting symbol for these concepts. Additionally, the Sandman's mysterious and eerie nature aligns with the dark and heavy sound of the song, making it a powerful and evocative choice for the song's subject. **
